Mugeche perfect in Missouri, leads Blue Springs

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Victor Mugeche capped an undefeated cross country season in Missouri by winning his first state crown in the Class 4 final at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City.

The Blue Springs senior ran 15 minutes, 29.1 seconds and led his team to the championship as well. Ryan Riddle of Webb City finished second, 12 seconds back.

Mugeche's last two seasons ended at the regional level but he has a good shot at qualifing for either NXN, Foot Locker or both in coming weeks.

Blue Springs South duo of Victoria Findley and Danielle Hotalling went 1-2 in the girls race. Findley clocked 18:09.3 and  Hotalling went 18:24.3. Both outran 2016 champion Mikayla Reed of Washington, who was third (18:26.1).

Seventh-place finisher Emma Roth led Park Hill South to the team championship, with 92 points.

Festus swept the Class 3 team titles and the boys won for the fourth year in a row. The girls squeaked past Herculaneum 108-110. Edward Wilhite from Warrensburg won the boys race in 15:42.2 and freshman Kylie Goldfarb of John Burroughs took the girls win in 19:00.5.

Brianna Haller ran 18:50.4 to lead Fatima to a dominant team victory in Class 2. The Comets put three in the top six on the way to 42 points. Lamar edged Fatima for the boys title, 48-61, thanks to three scorers in the top nine overall. Caleb Cornelius of Saxony Lutheran ran 16:22.5 to win the boys race.

Ashley Riley of South Nodaway (19:55.5) and Easton Sabala of Hermitage (16:43.3) were the individual champions in Class 1. West Platte won a tight team battle with New Haven, 104-109. The New Haven boys prevailed over Hermitage 94-104.
