Connor Burns, already a sub-four miler and undefeated this fall in cross country, made his final statement at the Missouri state cross country championships at Gans Creek Cross Country Course by running 15:01.2 and winning the Class 3 race by more than a minute.

Burns already held the course record, with a 14:57.5 at the Gans Creek Classic in September.

Burns' Southern Boone teammate, Alexandra Volkart, made it a sweep of the individual titles in Class 3 as she won in 18:40.3.

In the large-school races, Liberty North raced to a boys team championship, led by individual winner and nationally ranked junior Sage Wilde, who ran 15:05.9. Liberty North beat Rock Bridge in a showdown between state powers, 77 to 89. Rock Bridge duo Ian Kemey and Andrew Hauser were second and fourth.

Grace Tyson (18:10.5) and Natalie Barnard (18:24.8) went 1-2 in the girls race to lead Layfayette (Wildwood) to the team championship.

The Hillsboro boys put an impressive performance together in the Class 4 final, with five scorers in the top 15. That included a victory for Josh Allison, who led his team to 35 points. His winning time was 15:38.9.

Julia Ray of Mary Institute-Country Day School won the Class 4 girls race in 18:14.7, the second-fastest time of the day overall. Father Tolton Regional Catholic won a very tightly bunched team race with 109 points. Rockwood Summit was second with 111 points and Clayton was third with 112.

Riley Bryan, a senior from Smithton, won the 2A girls race in 19:04.4. North Platte secured the team victory with 64 points and three finishers in the top 11.

Riley Blay from West Nodaway won the 1A boys race by half a minute in 16:28.2 and Hermitage put four in the top 22 on the way to the team title.
